Personalized Care

Our compassionate staff is well-trained and each caregiver is prepared to provide a range of care services and ongoing care support for individuals in the early stages of dementia.

Personalized Memory Care Services

The Vilas Home can offer support services for individuals with dementia and cognitive decline. We currently have a secure memory care wing under construction and expect it be open in early 2025.

Secure Memory Care Coming in 2025

Our secure memory care will be available in early 2025. This specialized unit will allow our residents to enjoy a high quality of life with personalized care and in a community environment. The secure memory care wing will feature a mix of well-appointed private rooms with private baths and comfortable living and dining areas.

Memory care residents will benefit from a vast array of cognitively stimulating activities including outdoor nature walks, painting, musical performances and active games to encourage movement and engagement in the present moment.

Our Memory Care Services Will Include:

Maximizing Quality of Life

Knowing when it is time to place your loved one in a secure memory care facility can be a challenge for any family. In some situations, it may be recommended to move a loved one into our assisted living community and allow them to benefit from the supportive care and daily structure to acclimate to community living and maximize quality of life. As individual needs increase, a resident with progressing dementia can plan to later move into our secure memory care unit.

Personalized Care

Age In Place

We are proud to offer personalized care for residents who have all stages of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Additionally, under our enhanced assisted living license, we are able to provide several skilled nursing services including incontinence management, diabetic care, transfer assistance, among others and can accommodate specialized diets including mechanical soft and thickened liquids. This allows our memory care residents to age in place and stay with us for longer than an assisted living facility is typically able to offer.

Specialized Activities

As memory care professionals, we know that the best treatment for dementia is to keep our residents engaged in the present moment as much as possible through therapeutic and specialized activities and outings. Here is a sampling of our current offerings:

  • Regular Religious Services
  • Musical Performances
  • Daily Games Such as Bingo, Bowling and Balloon Toss
  • Spa and Wellness Activities
  • Daily Exercise and Regular Outdoor Walks
  • Gardening and Bird Watching
  • Arts and Crafts

When to Seek Secure Memory Care

If you are seeking placement in a secure memory care setting, we suggest that you consider placement in a locked memory care unit when your loved is:

  • No longer easily redirected
  • No longer able to care for her/himself independently
  • Not able to rely solely on prompting and cues
  • May have some behavioral outbursts

If your loved one needs supervision and structure and would benefit from communal dining, hourly checks and regular assistance with personal care, our assisted living setting may be more appropriate.

Family Resources

We encourage regular visitation from family and friends and suggest that family members bring photos and personal items for their loved one’s room that are familiar and will provide comfort such as a special blanket, photos or art work for the wall or a favorite chair.

Specialized Activities

Stimulation of the mind and body is important at every stage of life. That's why we provide opportunities for continued learning, entertainment and friendly fun.

Family Resources

We understand as well as anybody how challenging situations concerning a loved one’s health and safety can be. Issues related to aging can be complicated and there aren’t always easy answers because no single situation is exactly like another. As a result, it can seem like options are limited and you may feel that there are not enough resources for families including social resources, spiritual care, basic family support or accessible nursing services in the community at large. We want you to know that we are here to help.

Heroes work here, the sign in front of Vilas tells the whole story about the people who work here.
