We understand that making the decision to find a memory care facility for your loved one can be difficult. Especially for those family members that are still active in their communities but showing early signs of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

At the Vilas Home, we have specialized services and facilities to ensure that those with mild memory care needs continue to live their lives to the fullest while getting the support they need.

At our assisted living facility in Plattsburgh, NY, we provide a structured environment that helps residents with mild memory impairments feel more grounded in their day.  With regular checks from our dedicated staff members, assistance with personal care needs including dressing, bathing and toileting, regular nutritious meals, medication management and a robust activities program, your loved one will be looked after and given opportunities to be socially engaged.  

However, while individuals with mild memory care needs are able to thrive at the Vilas Home, the community does not have a dedicated secure memory unit at this time, meaning we are not a fully locked facility and we don’t have a Wander Guard System in place. If your loved one has more advanced memory concerns, you should consider a higher level of care. 

We currently building a secure memory care wing that is expected to be available in early 2025.

How to Know It’s Time for Memory Care Assistance

Our community living environment and daily meals with friends encourage socialization and a family atmosphere. We also encourage our residents to take part in our daily onsite activities to keep their minds sharp.

Keeping Memories Alive

To help our residents feel at home, we encourage family members to bring photos and decorations for their private rooms that will keep them connected to memories they have retained. Families are also encouraged to visit regularly to keep the connection you have formed with your loved ones.
