Ask anyone who is familiar with the Samuel F. Vilas Home in Plattsburgh and they will tell you what a special place it is. The original building was constructed in 1888 by the Vilas family and has been meticulously maintained over the years. A large addition was completed in the 1990s ensuring that the Vilas Home maintains its historic charm, but offers modern amenities to fit today's occupants.
Licensed by the New York State Department of Health with 42 resident rooms, the Vilas Home is located in the heart of Plattsburgh next to CVPH and across the street from SUNY Plattsburgh. Inside residents enjoy large windows, well-lit spaces, and cozy resident rooms - all fully equipped with furnishings as well as a TV, mini-fridge, personal heat and A/C controls, and an emergency call bell system.
A spacious open-air front porch overlooks the property's expansive grass lawn and in warmer months, residents enjoy sitting outside, maintaining our raised flower beds, and spending time in our screened gazebo on our south lawn. From the variety of planned daily activities we offer and attentive personalized care our staff delivers to the home-cooked comfort foods coming out of our kitchen and birthday celebrations we throw for each resident, the Vilas Home truly feels like home when staying home is no longer a safe option.
